Revisit template version

In the call it was mentioned that a higher mail template version than the client will not experience any issues. So I'm clear, I want to confirm that on a Domino 8.5FP1 server I can deploy the 8.5 mail template while the users are still on the Notes 8.0.2 Standard client. My understanding is that some newer features may not be available, but everything that worked in the 8.0.2 template design will still work. I want to do this to take advantage of the iNotes improvements.
